Flying first class is a dream for many people but for others, it’s a reality of life. If you’ve never had the opportunity to do it, is it worth the price?
First-class flights are worth it, but only for passengers that can easily afford them. For those who can afford them, flying first class provides many benefits and is well worth the extra money. You will be well fed, provided with some extra perks, such as drinks, and will get a much bigger better, and more comfortable seat.
The real caveat for flying first class is the fact that it is so expensive. If money is no object, then first class is really the only way to fly. It is so much more comfortable than sitting in coach.
On the other hand, there may be some room to try other classes as well. You might even be surprised to learn that on some flights, first class is not the best class.
At this point, it suffices to say that flying first class is a real treat and it is well worth the money if you can afford it. It may also be possible to fly first-class if you can just afford the upgrade one time because it is something that you should experience at least once in your life.
It’s always good to have a pros and cons list for anything we do in life. This includes flying first class. The con is obviously the fact that it is more expensive but what are the advantages?
The primary advantage of flying first class is the upgraded experience. As you will see, you get more than just a larger seat, you get a crew that is willing to take care of you and all that you need on the flight.
What are some of the specific advantages of flying first class? Consider the following:
Security – Undoubtedly, you recognize that security is a big part of flying but there are different levels and not all of us are stuck in the same line. If you are flying first class, particularly if you buy the ticket in advance, you will be in a different line for security.
You’re going to experience the same treatment when it comes to being scanned and having your items checked, but the fact that you are in an upgraded line means that you will go through much more quickly.
Checked Baggage – Sure, you have to pay more for the first-class ticket but you will pay less for the baggage. More and more often, airlines are charging a lot of money for checked baggage but you get some extra freebies with your first-class ticket.
Check-in – Who wants to stand in a long line to check in for a flight? If you are flying first class, you will get through the service quickly.
Lounge – Have you ever wanted to hang out and rub elbows with the rich and famous? There may not be any celebrities on your flight, but you will have access to the private airport lounge.
Treatment – When you fly coach, you are just another face in the crowd. When you fly first-class, you will be treated like first-class.
The easiest way to get a first-class ticket is to pay for it. From time to time, however, the option comes for a free upgrade. How can you get one?
The easiest way to get a free upgrade to first class is to ask for it. Talk to the gate attendant and let them know that you are willing to take the upgrade if it is offered. They will add you to the list and you will be a priority if it comes available.
Not every flight is going to offer a free upgrade to first class. It is becoming more and more scarce, but it does still happen from time to time.
Aside from asking for the upgrade, you can also make sure that you are eligible for it. The gate attendant will check for this, including the type of tickets you currently have, where you purchased them, and how much you paid for them.
Being a frequent flyer with the same airline will also make it easier for you to get that free upgrade. Loyalty matters.
Some airlines offer both first-class and business-class tickets. Is there a difference between the two?
First class is the best experience on most airlines. They offer the biggest seats and the most added amenities that will make your flight a memorable one. Business class also has a lot to offer, so it is worth looking into it before you buy your ticket.
When you compare first-class and business-class seats side-by-side, you typically notice that the first-class seat is a little larger. That isn’t always the case.
Some airlines tend to focus on the business traveler, so they will offer more to those with business-class tickets than to those who are traveling first-class. Both are going to be upgraded and have a lot to offer, but it’s a good idea to check on this in advance.
Of course, both first-class tickets and business-class are going to be more expensive. If it comes down to price, choose the one that is more affordable.

The dress code on airlines tends to be all over the map. Is there a dress code for first-class?
Most airlines do not have a dress code for first-class or business-class flyers. You can wear what you would typically wear in coach, but it’s a good idea to be somewhat modest and avoid any offensive language on your clothing. Regardless of whether you are flying first class or not, you may be asked to change.
It is also a good idea to consider where you are flying, why you are flying, and who you are flying with. Although it isn’t a specific dress code, you may need to dress it up a little so you can make an impression.
Appearances do matter, so if you are representing a company, your appearance is going to leave a lasting impression. The same is also true if you are traveling with your boss or a client because you would want to impress them as well.
